Abraham Piper recently wrote a blog on why every pastor should blog. Is there a word for that? He gave six reasons: 1. ...to write, 2. ...to teach, 3. ...to recommend, 4. ...to interact, 5. ...to develop an eye for what is meaningful, 6. ...to be known.
So I've decided to blog.
But this new project was almost derailed before it even started for a most inconsequential reason. I was flummoxed by what the title of my blog should be. I use the word "inconsequential" very reluctantly. I thought about using "profound" or "consequential" but ultimately the title of this blog is relatively unimportant, as long as the content is of value. For that we'll just have to wait and see.
My exercise in creativity has a significant list of rejects that may prove useful in time:
1. East Asheville Hardware
2. Leave It Like It Is
3. Edify Stupid
4. Theology Cafe
5. Hold It Up to the Light
6. Papa Bear
7. The Big Blue Poodle
8. "Vintage-", "Ancient-", or "Retro-" Something
9. "Tarheel" Something
10. "Gospel" Something
How might this list of pretentious, self-indulgent drivel possibly be useful, you ask? These will all serve as titles for upcoming blogs. Each in their own way has some interesting information to explore. I hope to tackle the most interesting one to me tomorrow - East Asheville Hardware.
It may be helpful to state, as simply as possible, what this blog might entail. I hope to take things of interest to me, my family, my ministry, and my friends, and write about it. I also hope to find ways of finding meaning and purpose in some of those thoughts, particularly redemptive meaning as it pertains to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Acts 17:16-34 is one of my favorite passages of Scripture. In it Paul speaks with the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers from their own culture which he has observed (the inscription "to an unknown god" and the quote from their poets). He uses this as an opportunity to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and to call these philosophers to repent! (vs. 31)
I hope this some how proves helpful in that regard.
